5 things you never knew about tall mens clothing
OK, these are a few things that I’ve picked up on my quest around the country for extra tall clothes. Some of them might surprise you, but they’re basically just some general interest while you’re eating your breakfast.
I’ve got an enormous shoe, the world’s tallest actor, and a record-breaking rower lined up for you.
- If you go to the ‘Big Man’s Shop’ in Cornwall, they have a size 22 shoe on show.
Yes, who knows where they got it from, but it is collosal. While I was there I had to take a photo just to show how big this shoe is. Let alone how tall you would need to be to fit in it. I’m a size 16 and they dwarfed me.It’s a bit of a trek to get there to be honest, in a business park in Redruth, Cornwall. Still, it’s probably the biggest shoe you’ll ever see.

- The tallest ever oarsman in the Oxford vs Cambridge boat race was 6 foot 9.5 inches.

Rowing is typically a tall person’s sport, I actually competed to be a tall man in the 2012 olympics for rowing, but was turned away in the first round. Tall rowers do particularly well because of the length of their arms which lever the oars. That said, it’s not that comfortable being couped up in a boat. And it must hurt the next morning.
- The world’s tallest actor helped promote BigTall order

Neil Fingleton, from Durham, is the world’s tallest actor at 7 foot 7. I admire the work he’s done for the tall community very much, he seems very down to earth and just a nice guy. He did an open day at BigTall Order signing autographs and taking photos, and has since gone on to launch his own tall shop. (I hope to write about this soon).
I couldn’t find a photo of the event, so here’s a photo of Neil. - Large and Tall menswear launched their shop with the world’s largest shirt
I only know this because they have the newspaper article still on show in their shop. The shirt was, I think, 14XL – though feel free to correct me in the comments. A great publicity move, it doubtless attracted attention through their town of Leamington Spa. No photos – but I’m sure you can imagine. - There is no such thing as the 7 feet tall club
This is quite a popular myth which I hope to dispell right now. (This was forged by ITV in a programme called ’superhuman:giants’, which I think was a bad starting point). They said, when you become 7 feet tall, you become part of a club. You don’t.
Trust me when I say that there is no marching band awaiting those who become 7 foot. There is a 7 feet tall club on Facebook, and I’m the admin (feel free to join if you want), but there is no formal group. For anyone who spent the next fortnight after that ITV programme was aired trying to explain this, please direct them to this article!
I’ve actually found them very friendly in the Big Man’s Shop. It’s a warehouse mail-order company, but you can try things on if you go down there.
So there you have it, a few bit-sized pieces of information about being tall and tall mens clothing. If you’re looking for more interesting facts, you can explore the other tall stores in my extratall shops directory. Until then, enjoy being tall!
